As a rookie drafted in the second NHL round, 21st overall, he signed a 3-year contract with the California Seals for $30,000, $40,000, and $50,000 plus a $30,000 signing bonus. His agent, Bernard Geoffrion, had negotiated a clause with performances bonuses that amounted to $15,000 in 1975-76 but the team refused to pay unless they could produce a copy of the clause, which was on a separate sheet. His agent and lawyers could not find a copy and he was never paid the performance bonus.
