In January 1958, the Seattle Americans, of the Western Hockey League, were rumored to be for sale and valued at about $100,000. On August 16, 1958, the teamwas sold to a local group led by Marvin Burke, owner of Sportcaster Corporation in Seattle and developer of the Stevens Pass ski resort. It was renamed the Seattle Totems.
