On May 29, 1981, the Quebec Junior Major Hockey League purchased the Sorel Eperviers franchise for $200,000 and sold it to a group that started the Granby Bisons for $125,000 cash, a $35,000 payment a year later and $40,000 coming from the dispersal draft where each other team from the league bought an unprotected Eperviers player for $5,000 each.
