On April 12, 1973, Victor Ehre headed a group of eight businessmen who purchased the Eastern Hockey League franchise from Edward Stanley and the Clinton Rink Association. The team was renamed the Mohawk Valley Comets and played in the North American Hockey League starting in 1973-74 as the EHL split into two leagues.
