On March 25, 1926, signed a four-year contract as General Manager and coach with the New York Rangers for a salary of $5,000 the first season and $7,500 each of the following three season, plus a bonus of 5% of the Rangers' net profits (with a guaranteed $2,500 the first season). He also had a clause stipulating that either side could terminate the contract at any time but his salary would be paid for that season plus a buyout of $5,000 if fired before March 1927. Prior to the 1926-27 season, he was fired and only paid $7,500 (instead of his $5,000 salary plus $5,000 buyout per his specia clause).
