Because of the lockout, his NHL salary of $2,250,000 was prorated for the 48-game season. On July 1, 2012, as a free agent, signed a two-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche for $4.5M. After the season, the Colorado Avalanche bought out the year left on his contract. Per the NHL compliance buyout rule, two-thirds of the $2.25M remaining on the contract had to be paid over a period of twice the remaining length of the contract resulting in yearly payments of $750,000 for 2 years, until the end of the 2014-15. season. Never played again in the NHL, playing two more seasons in the AHL.
